Flash fiction: Perseverance

‘I won’t take no for an answer,’ he said, smiling.

She shook her head, also smiling.

‘Come on. Just give me your number.’

‘Why?’

‘Why not?’

‘Because then you’ll want a date.’

He laughed. ‘And what’s wrong with that?’

She shrugged. It had been fun but that was all. Why ruin things by trying to make it something it wasn’t? Besides, he probably just wanted to get laid and was willing to wait.

‘I just want to see you again.’ He stepped closer to her, his eyes fixed on hers.

She, now aware of the silence surrounding them, of how alone they were, shook her head and tried to back away. He grabbed her wrist and smiled.

His hand was in her hair, bending her ear to his lips.

‘I won’t take no for an answer.’
