Flash Fiction: Waiting

She awoke. That meant she’d fallen asleep but she felt like she’d been conscious of him beside her, waiting, all night. Had he slept? Was he asleep now? She’d have to shift her body round to be sure and then he’d be awake either way. How patient of him to wait all night for nothing. Patient and presumptuous. She had a boyfriend, after all. So what was she doing there?

Waiting.
