Flash Fiction: The Snowman

Christine had been in the kitchen all day and nobody had offered to help. All the men were slouched around the living room, watching tv. Alice was also looking at the tv but all she could think about was how disgusted she was with them all. Especially Dave. Her whispered suggestion during The Snowman that she’d help had not gained the response she’d wanted. Rather than offer to go instead because she was a guest and he was Christine’s son, all he’d said was, ‘if you want, babes.’ Then, he’d had the audacity to ask her to get him a beer while she was at it. As a result, she’d done neither.

Besides, if she went, she’d only be reinforcing the problem. And why should the women do all the work while the men sat about doing nothing? It wasn’t right.

How could they all just sit there?
